BCDS Opening Assembly: Painting a Better Tomorrow!

September 10, 2026

On September 10, the Buckley community celebrated the official start of the 2026-27 school year with our Opening Assembly! Student Council Co-Presidents Artemios G. and Emma S. led the Class of 2027 in welcoming new members of our community, including students in grades 2-7 and  faculty and staff beginning their Buckley tenures.

The assembly opened with a short video created by Artemios and Emma featuring baby pictures of the Class of 2027 that transitioned into their seventh-grade yearbook portraits—a fitting illustration of how much the students have grown as they now lead the school community as eighth graders. The program continued in traditional form, as fourth graders Cody S. and Perrine L. led Pledge of Allegiance, and Ciana S.-S. ’27 performed a beautiful rendition of the national anthem.

The eighth-grade class—the school’s 100th graduating class—selected “Painting a Better Tomorrow” as this year’s theme. Emma and Artemios encouraged their fellow students to carry it with them throughout the year ahead.

“This theme reminds us that change does not happen all at once.” Emma said. “We do not become better students, friends, or people in one big dramatic moment. It happens day by day and choice by choice.”

Artemios continued, “This year we want to challenge everyone in the Buckley community to remember that the choices we make today shape our tomorrow.”

With their eyes toward the future, Artemios and Emma both inspired and challenged us all to create the community we wish to see at Buckley with every choice we make—whether offering a timely thank you or a heartfelt apology.

The Student Council Co-Presidents then introduced Buckley’s newest community members, each welcomed by enthusiastic applause that filled The Muran Theatre.

Many thanks to Artemios and Emma for organizing a meaningful kickoff to the school year and to the entire Class of 2027 for bringing their vision to life with such energy.
