Lower School Participates in Valentines for Veterans
In a heartwarming display of gratitude and appreciation for the sacrifices made by our veterans, students at Buckley Country Day School took part in the "Valentines for Veterans" project this month. The initiative, sponsored by the Nassau County Executive, aimed to uplift the spirits of veterans in hospitals and nursing homes by delivering personalized valentines.
The students poured their creativity and heartfelt sentiments into crafting beautiful valentines, expressing their thanks to the veterans for their dedicated service. The project sought to ensure that the veterans, who have contributed so much to our country, feel remembered and appreciated.
Two standout fourth graders, Olivia H. and Ethan K., took charge of presenting the valentines. In a special ceremony, they handed over the tokens of appreciation to the school’s maintenance staff members, Kevin Meaney and Brendan Shunk, who delivered the valentines to the County Executive's office. They were then distributed to veterans in hospitals and nursing homes across the region.
"We are immensely proud of our students for actively participating in the 'Valentines for Veterans' project. It's heartening to witness young minds coming together to express gratitude and respect for our veterans," said Elizabeth Lyons, Head of Lower School at Buckley. "The valentines not only carry artistic brilliance but also embody the genuine appreciation our students have for the sacrifices made by our veterans."
