Class of 2026 Ignites the Stage with Footloose

Tuesday, March 31, 2026

There was a buzz of excitement in The Muran Theatre on Tuesday, March 31st, as the Buckley Class of 2026 delivered a lively and memorable performance of Footloose for this year’s 8th Grade Musical. With two performances packed with energy, humor, and heart, students embraced the spotlight and made the beloved show their own.

At the helm was Mrs. Jennifer Demopoulos, whose 34 years at Buckley teaching art and dance have made her a guiding force in the school’s creative life. A seasoned performer and director, Mrs. D brought both experience and enthusiasm to the production, continuing her leadership of the 8th Grade Musical tradition since first taking it on with the Class of 2022. Her steady direction and eye for detail helped shape a performance that felt cohesive, confident, and distinctly student-driven.

Onstage, the Class of 2026 rose to the occasion, infusing Footloose with personality and momentum. From spirited dance numbers to confident vocal performances of ’80s classics, the cast demonstrated not only their talent but also their commitment to the process behind the production. The result was a show that felt both nostalgic and full of joy.

Equally impressive was the work happening just out of view. The Class of 2027 partnered with their 8th grade peers behind the scenes, running sound, lights, projections, and the many technical elements that keep a production moving seamlessly. Their focus and teamwork ensured that every cue was met and every moment landed just right.

The excitement in the audience was unmistakable, as students from Kindergarten through seventh grade filled The Muran Theatre with cheers, laughter, and wide-eyed attention. For many of the younger Buckley students, attending the 8th Grade Musical is more than just a performance—it’s a glimpse into a milestone they eagerly anticipate. Alumni often look back on this tradition as one of the most memorable parts of their time at Buckley, recalling the sense of pride and camaraderie that comes with taking the stage alongside classmates. That sense of excitement was palpable, as today’s audience imagined their own turn in the spotlight in the years ahead.

More than a performance, the 8th Grade Musical remains a hallmark of the Buckley experience—one that brings students together in a shared creative endeavor. This year’s Footloose was no exception, leaving audiences entertained and the school community proud of what its students can accomplish together.
