Treats for Troops: Buckley Students Share Halloween Cheer with U.S. Armed Forces

November 10, 2025

Buckley Country Day School students are spreading holiday cheer to members of the U.S. Armed Forces through the school’s annual Treats for Troops initiative. This year, students collected nine boxes of Halloween candy, which were decorated and wrapped with care by third-grade students.

The boxes will be sent to the U.S. Army Reserve in Saugerties, New York, where they will be distributed to troops stationed both domestically and overseas. The project provides Buckley students with an opportunity to express gratitude for the dedication and sacrifices of service members.

Treats for Troops is a cherished tradition at Buckley,” said Elizabeth Lyons, Head of the Lower School at Buckley Country Day. “It allows our students to give back in a meaningful way and lets our troops know that their service is appreciated and remembered.”

The initiative reflects Buckley’s commitment to fostering compassion, community engagement, and gratitude among its students, instilling values that extend far beyond the classroom. Special thanks to Third Grade teacher, Mrs. Kathryn Downing, for once again organizing this annual community project.
