7th and 8th Graders Lead the Way in Responsible AI Use
January 24, 2025
Under the guidance of Mrs. Maria Newman, our 7th and 8th graders have been exploring the innovative and responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance their learning experience in English class. As part of Buckley’s commitment to integrating modern tools into the classroom, students experimented with using AI to support their creative and critical thinking skills.
Eighth graders brought Greek mythology to life by researching iconic myths and showcasing their relevance today. Some even used AI to add rich historical context, with standout presentations on Medusa, Tantalus, and the Cyclops. Seventh graders, inspired by Animal Farm, demonstrated their creativity and understanding of persuasive techniques to create campaigns to promote an idea using logical fallacies, elements of propaganda, and AI-generated visuals. This work exemplifies Buckley’s vision of using technology to empower students—not as a shortcut, but as a means to deepen their engagement and comprehension. Technology at Buckley enables teachers to design transformative learning experiences that would not otherwise be possible, fostering competency in a broad range of skills like AI, coding, and programming. As technology evolves, Buckley remains committed to equipping students with the tools and knowledge to use it thoughtfully, competently, and ethically.
