Kindergarteners Celebrate Reading!
October 8, 2024
On the morning of Friday, October 4th, Buckley’s Kindergarteners took to the streets (well, the bus circle, anyway!) to share their passionate love of reading! Their chant rang out all over campus, “2-4-6-8, our reading is really great! 1-2-3-4, we can’t wait to read some more!” The celebration marks the culmination of Kindergarten’s first reading unit on Star Storybooks, building excitement and enthusiasm for reading.
Kindergarten teacher Meg Edwards remarked, “Our Kindergarten students have made such incredible reading progress in such a short time and our current practice of partner reading will reinforce the supportive community of readers that we have developed in our classroom.”
Buckley’s Lower School focuses on building literacy and leadership skills, and students are encouraged to take on public speaking opportunities. After the parade, Kindergarten students returned to their classrooms to – you guessed it – read! They read newer titles like Zombies Don’t Eat Veggies (2019) and classics like Caps for Sale (1940), and then acted out what they were reading with their classmates.
Head of School Dr. Jean-Marc Juhel stopped by for a few stories with the Kindergarteners, and Head of Lower School, Mrs. Elizabeth Lyons, helped lead the parade, energized by the gusto of our amazing students.
Congratulations, Kindergarteners, on your literacy skills! The Buckley community agrees – reading is really great!
